Things You Should Know About Porcelain Veneers

Everybody wants a perfect smile because it is one of the basic human features which influence other people. Hence, if you have a bright and nicely aligned smile, it would be one of the factors to enhance your self-esteem among the other people around you. This is the major reason that cosmetic dentistry remains to be the area where millions of dollars are spent every year. Among other cosmetic dentistry procedures, porcelain dental veneers installation is the most popular one.

Dental veneers are basically the thin shells made to cover the front sides of teeth. Nevertheless, it’s not just the aesthetics which get enhanced with these veneers. Dental veneers also strengthen the teeth, thus contributing sufficiently in improving the dental health as well.

Having that said, there are a few things which are worth mentioning regarding porcelain veneers.

Porcelain veneers mimic the real teeth
Since porcelain veneers are custom-made teeth shells which are prepared after taking proper measurement of the other teeth and the effected tooth/teeth, no one would be able to tell you the difference after attachment of veneers. The first reason why these veneers resemble too much with the natural teeth is the porcelain’s characteristics which allow the veneer to reflect the same smoothness and texture as that of natural teeth. Hence, it can give the flawless smile you have been wishing for.

Veneers are stain-resistant
Due to highly sealed surface and strongly smooth surface, the veneers remain stain-resistant in an amazing way. It means that you will not have to worry about the staining of these veneers even after a long time. However, it really doesn’t mean that these veneers have the super capability of resisting the staining process even if you do not take good care of these veneers. In fact, these veneers may require almost the same kind of attention which is needed to maintain the better look of natural teeth. Another word of caution regarding toothpaste is worth discussing here. The toothpaste you are going to use on the veneers should not contain abrasive components because such ingredients can scratch the surface of these veneers.

Furthermore, you will also need to visit the dentist twice in every year to get the dental and porcelain cleaning.

Very little or no intervention is required for porcelain veneers
Since it is the cosmetic dental procedure, you may wonder if the teeth structure is altered from the front in order to make the tooth ready to accommodate a veneer. Well, the veneer is basically a very thin surface. Hence, the thickness of only 0.5mm form the tooth surface may be required to be removed in order to attach the veneer. In many instances, there may not be the need for removal at all.

Nonetheless, there is no big thing to worry about even if the extra thickness were to be removed from the tooth surface because veneers basically strengthen the teeth by covering the cracks.
